How Google+ Fares Against Facebook
Some love it, some hate it, but no one can ignore Google’s latest social media service offering. Considered to be the Facebook Killer, Google+ is the latest rage. Although it has mostly received positive feedback, loyal Facebook fans refuse to accept it and some just don’t see the point of another social networking site that offers almost the same services. Here is a detailed look at the latest social networking site to hit the internet world.
Main features of Google+
Since its release, Google+ has received both adoration and flak, with at least one blog writer blogging about it every day or even every few hours! It comes with its set of strengths and weaknesses and it is upto the public to decide its fate. Google+ is equipped with many interesting features that are somewhat similar to Facebook’s features but easier to use.
- An almost plain white background serves as the design of the entire site and many similarities to Facebook have been drawn by experts and users alike. Albeit simple, the overall design of the site is organized and easy to use.
- The user profile of Google+ is also very similar to Facebook and contains almost the same features like posting updates, news feeds, images and videos.
- The major ‘plus’ point of this site is the ease in functionality as far as the friend list is concerned. Four default groups are available and users just need to drag and drop the names in the respective circles. The option to create more friend groups is also available.
- The next major advantage Google+ has over Facebook is the multiple video conferencing option. Through ‘Google+ Hangout’, users can now have group video chats through webcams.
- Google+ also has a mobile application and is commended for its easy download and navigation even on mobile phones.
- Google+ also automatically imports photographs from your Picasa online album and gives you the option of sharing photos, videos and messages to specific groups.
Google+ vs. Facebook
Although Google+ provides additional features compared to Facebook, regular social networking users do not consider it revolutionary enough to deplete the Facebook fan base. Many users are open to trying out Google+ but few agree that it is better than Facebook. Most Google+ users have given positive feedback but hardly any of them are considering abandoning Facebook.
Google+ has also garnered some strong reactions; from users completely loving the new site to others opposing the site so strongly, that they refuse to even join it. With a majority of the reaction falling in the lukewarm area, Google+ seems to have had a positive but slow start.
The final verdict
Google+ is overall a great product by Google, but will it become the best social networking site in the world and prove its mettle by acting as the Facebook Killer? Will Facebook maintain its loyal fan base of over 700 million users or will another social networking site finally take over?
Most leading social networking sites have an X factor that make them super-popular. One can only wait and see if Google+ has these qualities and will ultimately emerge a winner or bite the dust.
